| | | Old Master Paintings & Drawings IV | | Annibale Carracci Bologna 1560 - 1609 Rome | | Portrait of a Lady with a Coral Necklace Oil on paper laid down on canvas 14 1/2 x 12 inches (38.74 x 32.39 cm) Painted circa 1588-1590 | The authenticity of this painting has been confirmed by Sir Dennis Mahon in a letter from May 1996: "Thank you for your letter enclosing the photographs of the portrait of a lady with a red necklace by Annibale Carracci. Stephen Pepper was indeed correct in saying that I know the picture at first hand (when it belonged to Testori), and entirely agree with him as to its authorship. It seemed to me an admirable early 'pioneering' work by the master, of very considerable interest. I congratulate you on having acquired it!". The Piece was also authenticated by Dr. Stephen Pepper. < Return to top of page < Return to selected pictures index | |
