Berry-Hill is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new paintings by Judith Belzer entitled Seasons/Spaces. Judith Belzer's paintings take nature as their source of inspiration and as a point of exploration into imaginary locales. Rather than pure represention, these paintings suggest an experience of nature inspired by seasonal changes. They take us beyond pure subject into an elusive place, a constantly shifting, unbound world. Belzer's imagery shifts back and forth from the physical references of leaves, branches and vines to an abstracted experience of gesture, light, and shadow. Judith Belzer redefines traditional landscape painting by taking us out of "location" and placing us instead inside "essence".
Judith Belzer was born in Chicago in 1956. She has been the subject of several one-woman shows in Boston, Chicago and New York. Her work has been included in group exhibitions in New York, Boston and Sante Fe. Judith Belzer's work can be found in such public collections as Equitable Life Insurance, Reader's Digest, Lifetime Cable, and Spaulding Corporation.
