A selection of nineteenth century American still lifes from the personal collection of art historian and art collector, William H. Gerdts, and his wife, Abigail Booth Gerdts. "[The painters of these pictures] found truthful beauty in the most humble forms: ...in small, loving depictions of a single piece of fruit, a dead bird, or a bunch of dried leaves." (William H. Gerdts).

Exhibition curated by Dr. Bruce Weber, Director of Research and Exhibitions at Berry-Hill Galleries.

This exhibition was also at the Mead Art Museum, February 27 - April 26, 1998
