Berry-Hill Galleries is pleased to present this exhibition of paintings by Bunny Harvey, completed by the artist in 1999 and 2000.
Bunny Harvey's paintings play the edge between representation and invention, between traditional landscape and abstract painting. The works represented in this exhibition are natural scenes rendered in densely and dynamically painted surfacesa stand of maples observed at close range, a screen of poplars and birches before a winter storm, an immense blue evening sky towering over a low horizon. Within these paintings Harvey has incorporated enigmatic symbols, stenciled numbers and letters and painted hidden memories which reflect both her experience of a direct observation of nature and her ongoing dialogue with poets, scientists and philosophers who have looked to nature as a source of their own invention and inspiration. more
